If you want to add an extra piece of luggage when you have already purchased tickets, you will have to pay the normal baggage fee and the excess baggage fee, which ranges from € 20.27 to € 86.87 (depending on the airline and the flight direction). If you wish to add an extra piece of luggage, please contact us.
Rules on the size and weight of both checked baggage and hand luggage depend on the airlines. You can see the checked baggage and hand luggage belonging to you in the purchased ticket. Usually, a passenger is allowed to carry a single piece of hand luggage, which must be placed under the seat in front of the passenger or on the top shelf. However, always check the rules of the airlines whose services you are using.
If you could not find the rules of the airline company you were looking for and you have questions about hand or checked baggage, please contact us.
No, it is not. One passenger is allowed to have one hand luggage of certain size and weight (unless indicated otherwise by the airline).
If you are travelling with a scheduled airline in economy class - you can have one piece of checked baggage free of charge; you will have to pay a charge set by the airline for extra pieces of baggage (please contact us for the information on checked baggage when flying in higher than economy class).
Low-cost airlines do not offer a free service of carriage of checked baggage for economy class passengers (Wizzair, Ryanair, EasyJet, Vueling, Monarch Airlines, Norwegian Airlines, Flybe). However, you can order this service for an extra charge (in order to book extra baggage, please contact us).
Some airlines allow to carry duty free purchases in addition to the existing hand luggage, however, very often you may be asked to put you purchases and other items into a single piece of luggage.
An adult traveling with a baby (without an individual seat), beside the allowed hand luggage, can have a baby’s bag and select one of two items: a child seat suitable for the flight or a folding stroller (which can be used up to the boarding on the plane - then it will be taken by the staff and returned immediately after you leave the plane).
A child (older than 2 years of age) who has a separate seat and a ticket acquires all hand and checked baggage rights as an adult.
In most EU countries, strict rules on carriage of endangered species are applied and permission is required for carriage of some species. It is necessary to contact the institution responsible for the application of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in your home country and find out whether you need a certificate for the animal or plant species you are going to carry. For the exact plant carriage procedures and required documentation, please contact the customs authorities of the Republic of Latvia.
Certain airlines allow this. However, a number of airlines do not provide this service at all or only on certain routes. For specific information, please contact us.
For an additional fee airlines allow to carry pets in the passenger cabin or cargo compartment, specially designed for animals. The method of carriage depends on the size and breed of the pet. In any case, the airline employees will take care for you pets and try to make them the least stress.
Charges range from 50 to 200 euros, depending on the airline and a pet’s breed, size and weight.
All carried pets must have electronic chips. The owners of cats, dogs or ferrets are also required to obtain European pet passports, which indicate that pets have been vaccinated against rabies. When carrying other pets, it is required to obtained health and vaccination certificates certified by a veterinarian, authorizations to carry the pets and other documents which may be required by the country of entry or transit.
For the detailed information about traveling with pets you may consult with your pet’s veterinarian.
Valuables items are commercial and personal documents, keys, computers or other electronic devices, cameras or video cameras, money, jewellery, musical instruments, and any other items that have a great value for a passenger. It is advisable to carry such items in hand luggage (the airline is not responsible for carriage of valuables) or to insure the baggage for an extra charge.
It is advisable to have non-prescription medicines only for the period of the travel; it is also advisable to keep medicines in their original packaging (i.e. medicines can be removed from the paper boxes, but then they must be packed in leaflets. It is important that the original printed full name of the medicines can always be seen). Do not forget the rules on carriage of liquid medicines (see Carriage of Liquids). If you will need prescription medicines during the travel, make sure to take the prescription book or a doctor’s certificate, which confirms that the carried medicines belong to the passenger and are prescribed by a doctor and that their amount is required for treatment.
Rules of medicines for individual needs, carried through the border of the Republic of Lithuania or received by post, and detailed information on carriage of narcotic and psychotropic drugs is available on the website of the State Medicines Control Agency or you may contact this office by phone +371-67078424.
You can have as much cash as you want, but if you are going to enter the EU or leave it having more than 10 000 euros in cash (or its equivalent in another currency), you must declare it to the customs officials.
You may find more information about the declaration of money on the website of the customs of the Republic of Latvia or contact the authorities by phone.
